Target Information
The 60 kDa heat shock protein, mitochondrial, is a chaperonin involved in mitochondrial protein import and macromolecular assembly. Working alongside Hsp10, it aids in the correct folding of imported proteins. Additionally, it may help prevent misfolding and promote the refolding and proper assembly of unfolded polypeptides under stress conditions within the mitochondrial matrix. The functional units of these chaperonins consist of heptameric rings of the large subunit Hsp60, arranged as a back-to-back double ring. In mice, this 60 kDa heat shock protein may support mitochondrial function through various mechanisms, including facilitating proper protein folding, participating in stress responses, and regulating immune responses.
