Target Information
In rabbits, the GFRA1 gene encodes the GDNF family receptor alpha 1. Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and neurturin (NTN) are two structurally similar and powerful neurotrophic factors, essential for regulating neuron survival and differentiation. GDNF family receptor alpha 1 interacts with both GDNF and the RET proto-oncogene. Although there is no direct evidence for a specific function of GFRa1 in rabbits, it is hypothesized, based on its role in mice and other mammals, that GFRa1 may be involved in regulating the process of spermatogonial stem cell fate determination, migration, and differentiation in the rabbit reproductive system.
