Target Information

Erythropoietin is a hormone that regulates erythrocyte proliferation and differentiation, maintaining a physiological level of circulating erythrocyte mass. It binds to the EPOR, leading to its dimerization and subsequent activation of JAK2, which then activates specific downstream effectors such as STAT1 and STAT3. In mice, the role of erythropoietin (EPO) extends beyond erythropoiesis to include physiological and pathological processes in various non-hematopoietic tissues. EPO plays crucial roles in neuroprotection, muscle protection, metabolic regulation, immune system regulation, and exerts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Additionally, EPO has demonstrated protective effects on the kidneys in diabetic rats, potentially through its regulation of iron metabolism and oxidative stress.
