Target Information
G1/S-specific cyclin-D2 functions as a regulatory component of the cyclin D2-CDK4 (DC) complex, which phosphorylates and inhibits retinoblastoma (RB) protein family members, including RB1, thereby regulating the cell cycle during the G1/S transition. In mice, Cyclin D2 (CCND2) plays a role in various biological processes, such as cell cycle regulation, neurogenesis, pancreatic β-cell proliferation, myocardial repair, and tumor development. As a member of the cyclin D family, CCND2 primarily associates with CDK4/6 kinase during the G1 phase to facilitate the transition to the S phase. In mice, CCND2 expression is governed by multiple transcription factors, including Elf5 and MafA. Elf5 directly binds to the promoter region of CCND2, inhibiting its expression and controlling cell proliferation during mammary gland development.
