Target Information

C-X-C chemokine receptor type 2, encoded by the Cxcr2 gene in mice, is a receptor for interleukin-8 (IL-8), a potent chemotactic factor for neutrophils. IL8Rb and IL8RA are co-expressed on the surface of neutrophils and act selectively through different ligands. IL8RA is more likely to bind IL8, while IL8RB is more likely to bind NAP-2 and GROα. When IL-8 binds to this receptor, it triggers the activation of neutrophils through a G-protein-mediated pathway that activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. The receptor binds IL-8, as well as CXCL3, GRO/MGSA, and NAP-2 with high affinity.
