Target Information

Collagen type II is a crucial antigen in the CIA (collagen-induced arthritis) model. Arthritis can be triggered by injecting isotypic or heterotypic collagen type II into immunized mice, making this model a widely used tool for studying the immune mechanisms of rheumatoid arthritis. For example, DBA/1 mice develop typical arthritis after collagen type II injection, characterized by synovial hyperplasia, inflammation, and destruction of cartilage and bone. The occurrence of CIA is closely linked to the synergistic effects of humoral and cellular immunity, particularly the role of anti-collagen type II antibodies and T cell-mediated immune responses. Beyond its role as an antigen in the CIA model, collagen type II is also involved in bone and cartilage development and the maintenance of ocular tissue health in mice.
