Target Information
Growth/differentiation factor 11 (GDF11) is a secreted signaling molecule that plays a crucial role in regulating anterior/posterior axial patterning during development. It is believed to be pivotal in shaping both mesodermal and neural tissues. In aged mice, GDF11 demonstrates significant neuroprotective effects. Research indicates that GDF11 can stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells by activating the SMAD2/3 signaling pathway, thereby boosting neurogenesis and promoting neuronal survival. For instance, treatment with GDF11 in the hippocampus leads to an increase in the number of new neurons and an improvement in cognitive function.
