Target Information
The CX3C chemokine receptor 1 (CX3CR1) serves as a receptor for the C-X3-C chemokine fractalkine (CX3CL1) and is present on many early leukocyte cells. The CX3CR1-CX3CL1 signaling pathway performs various functions across different tissue compartments, including roles in immune response, inflammation, cell adhesion, and chemotaxis. In mice, Cx3cr1 is involved in multiple roles such as neuroprotection, immunoregulation, tissue repair, and the development of various diseases. In the mouse brain, Cx3cr1 is expressed in microglia and regulates microglial activity by interacting with Fractalkine (CX3CL1). Research indicates that a deficiency in Cx3cr1 can result in impaired cognitive functions in the hippocampus, such as reduced learning ability in the Morris water maze test and significantly diminished long-term potentiation (LTP).
