Target Information

Periostin is involved in promoting cell attachment and spreading, contributing significantly to cell adhesion. It facilitates the incorporation of BMP1 into the fibronectin matrix within connective tissues, leading to the proteolytic activation of lysyl oxidase LOX. Periostin is crucial for bone and tooth development in mice. Research has demonstrated that Periostin knockout mice (Postn−/−) experience developmental delays, microcephaly, canine tooth defects, and exhibit early-onset periodontal disease-like symptoms. Furthermore, Periostin is vital for normal tooth eruption, and its absence can result in abnormal tooth development.
