Target Information
Cadherins are cell adhesion proteins that depend on calcium to function. They predominantly interact with each other in a homophilic manner to connect cells, potentially aiding in the sorting of diverse cell types. They may also serve as negative regulators of neural cell growth. In mice, Cadherin-13 is primarily involved in the development and regulation of the nervous system, particularly within the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) system. Cadherin-13 is crucial for the density of 5-HT neurons and the regulation of prefrontal cortical neurons in the mouse brain. Research indicates that Cadherin-13 is significantly expressed in 5-HT-specific neurons and radial glial cells (RGCs) at various stages of mouse embryonic development.
