Target Information
Atrial natriuretic peptide-converting enzyme is a serine-type endopeptidase responsible for processing atrial natriuretic peptide (NPPA). It activates the non-functional propeptide NPPA into a functional hormone through proteolytic cleavage, thereby regulating blood pressure in the heart and promoting natriuresis, diuresis, and vasodilation. Research indicates that Corin knockout (KO) mice experience significant hypertension, particularly in renal tissue, likely due to the local absence of Corin. Corin also helps maintain normal blood pressure by activating the cardiac output-regulating hormone (ANP), and its deficiency results in increased blood pressure in mouse models of pregnancy-induced hypertension.
