Target Information
Beta-adrenergic receptors are responsible for the catecholamine-induced activation of adenylate cyclase via G proteins. The beta-2-adrenergic receptor exhibits approximately 30-fold higher affinity for epinephrine compared to norepinephrine. In mice, β2-AR primarily facilitates the relaxation of peripheral blood vessels. Research indicates that mice lacking β2-AR maintain normal heart rate and blood pressure at rest but exhibit a substantially diminished hypotensive response to isoproterenol, a β-AR agonist, highlighting the receptor's vital role in vasodilation regulation. Additionally, during exercise, β2-AR-deficient mice show increased exercise tolerance and a lower respiratory exchange ratio, suggesting potential differences in energy metabolism.
