Rabbit Matrix Metalloproteinase 12 (MMP-12) is an elastase-type protease that cleaves elastin, gelatin, and fibronectin within extracellular matrix. It is produced by alveolar macrophages and vascular smooth-muscle cells, where it facilitates elastic fiber remodeling and macrophage migration. MMP-12 is released as a 54 kDa pro-form and activated to 22 kDa, binding zinc and calcium for catalytic activity. Antibodies to rabbit MMP-12 enable specific detection and activity assessment in rabbit vascular, pulmonary, and tissue repair models.
