Target Information

Rat Fatty Acid Transport Protein 1 (FATP1, SLC27A1) is a plasma-membrane protein that catalyzes the ATP-dependent uptake of long-chain fatty acids into adipocytes, skeletal muscle, and heart. It also displays intrinsic acyl-CoA synthetase activity, converting imported fatty acids to their CoA esters for storage or β-oxidation. FATP1 is enriched at lipid rafts and insulin-sensitive vesicles, linking fatty-acid influx to glucose metabolism. As a key regulator of lipid uptake and energy homeostasis, FATP1 is an important target for studies of obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome.
