Target Information
Prolactin, a protein hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, was originally discovered and named for its function in promoting milk secretion during lactation. However, with further research, the function of prolactin is no longer limited to milk secretion during lactation, but involves a variety of physiological and pathological processes. Prolactin and its fragments may promote cell proliferation and migration by affecting cell signaling pathways such as the MAPK pathway. Prolactin may have a variety of functions in cats, including milk secretion, immunomodulatory, anti-angiogenesis, cell proliferation and migration, and regulation of postpartum heart disease.
