Target Information

Matrix Metalloproteinase 1 is encoded by the MMP1 gene in horses. It is a member of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are considered candidate biomarkers of both physiological and pathological tissue remodeling due to their key role in articular cartilage homeostasis. MMP-1 activity may be a useful tool in diagnostic, therapeutic or prognostic studies in horses suspected of having osteoarthritis.
