Cytochrome b5 serves as an electron shuttle in various biochemical reactions. It exists in different variants. Bovine Cytochrome B5 is encoded by the CYB5A gene in cattle. It encodes a membrane-bound cytochrome and was found to be one hypoxia-sensitive protein in rat erythrocytes.
