Target Information
Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP), also known as thrombospondin-5, is an extracellular matrix (ECM) protein primarily found in cartilage. It plays essential roles in maintaining tissue integrity and function. Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein is encoded by the COMP gene in horses. Unique fragments of COMP, present only in diseased cartilage, are formed during the destruction of this matrix in human osteoarthritis, inflamed equine cartilage, and equine tendinopathy.
