Target Information
Cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate (cGMP) is a cyclic nucleotide derived from guanosine triphosphate (GTP). It acts as a second messenger, much like cyclic AMP, and is involved in regulating ion channel conductance, glycogenolysis, and cellular apoptosis. Guanylate cyclase (GC) catalyzes cGMP synthesis. Soluble GC (sGC) is typically activated by nitric oxide, stimulating cGMP synthesis. Research has shown that after exercise, plasma cGMP concentration is higher in horses.
