Target Information
Glycogen Phosphorylase, Muscle Form (PYGM), also known as muscle glycogen phosphorylase, is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in glycogenolysis-the breakdown of glycogen into glucose subunits. It catalyzes the rate-limiting step in glycogenolysis by releasing glucose-1-phosphate from the terminal alpha-1,4-glycosidic bond. Bovine Glycogen Phosphorylase, Muscle Form is encoded by the PYGM gene in cattle. Mutations in PYGM can cause McArdle disease, the most common muscle glycogenosis.
