Target Information

Neuropeptide Y (NPY), encoded by the NPY gene in cattle, plays essential roles in physiological processes within both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It is co-secreted with neurotransmitters like GABA and glutamate. Remarkably, NPY stands out as one of the most potent orexigenic factors, significantly influencing feeding behavior and maintaining energy homeostasis. In the autonomic system it is produced mainly by neurons of the sympathetic nervous system and serves as a strong vasoconstrictor and also causes growth of fat tissue.
