Target Information

Lens fiber membrane intrinsic protein is the major structural protein of the lens fiber cell membrane, forming tight junctions that maintain lens transparency and refractive index. It is crucial for focusing light onto the retina. encoded by the bovine gene LIM2. The product of LIM2 is a 173 amino acid membrane protein called MP19 with four transmembrane domains. MP19 is the second most abundant integral membrane protein in vertebrate lens fibre cells.
