Target Information
IgA-Inducing Protein (IGIP), also known as C5orf53, is a protein encoded by the IGIP gene in cattle. IGIP's primary function is to enhance the secretion of IgA antibodies from B-cells when stimulated via CD40. IgA antibodies play a crucial role in our immune system, particularly in mucosal immunity and defense against pathogens at mucosal surfaces (such as the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts). IGIP is able to induce IgA production from B cells under stimulation conditions in which TGF-β cannot.
