Target Information

The interferon-α/β receptor (IFNAR), a virtually ubiquitous membrane receptor, binds endogenous type I interferon (IFN) cytokines. These endogenous human type I IFNs encompass various subtypes, including interferons-α, -β, -ε, -κ, -ω, and -ζ. IFNAR operates as a heteromeric cell surface receptor, comprising two subunits: the low-affinity subunit (IFNAR1) and the high-affinity subunit (IFNAR2). Upon binding type I interferons, IFNAR activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, along with MAPK, PI3K, and Akt pathways. This activation leads to transcriptional changes, impacting over 2000 different genes. Notably, IFNAR plays a role in bovine follicular growth, oocyte competence, and embryo viability.
