Target Information

Fibronectins bind to cell surfaces and a variety of compounds, including collagen, fibrin, heparin, DNA, and actin. They play key roles in cell adhesion, motility, opsonization, wound healing, and maintaining cell shape. In osteoblasts, fibronectins facilitate compaction through the cell-mediated matrix assembly process known as fibronectin fibrillogenesis, which is essential for mineralization. In mice, fibronectin (FN) primarily aids in interactions between cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM), playing a crucial role in cell adhesion, migration, growth, and differentiation. In mouse models, FN's function is evident through its binding with the ECM. For instance, FN enhances cell and ECM interactions by attaching to cell surface receptors, thereby influencing cell migration and growth.
