Target Information
Thidiazuron is a synthetic plant growth regulator and defoliant extensively used in agriculture, particularly to facilitate cotton harvesting. Although applied to crops, animal-derived food safety issues arise when livestock consume contaminated feed, such as cotton gin trash or forage. This exposure leads to the accumulation of thidiazuron and its hazardous metabolites (like phenylurea and 4-hydroxythidiazuron) in tissues, which can then be excreted into milk, eggs, and meat. Consequently, regulatory bodies globally establish strict Maximum Residue Limits in animal products to prevent potential chronic toxicological risks to consumers.
