17-Hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) is an endogenous progestogen steroid hormone related to progesterone. 17-OHP serves as a precursor for other important hormones in the body, including testosterone and estrogens like estrone. 17-OHP plays a crucial role in hormonal balance and health. In a porcine model, theca interna cells were able to convert exogenous progesterone into 17-alpha-hydroxyprogesterone and androstenedione in the presence of cyanoketone, which inhibits endogenous progesterone production.
