Target Information
Sheep tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is a cytokine that plays a significant role in the immune response, particularly in inflammation and the regulation of cell death. It is mainly secreted by macrophages and can induce cell death in certain tumor cell lines. TNF is also a potent pyrogen, causing fever either directly or by stimulating the secretion of interleukin-1, and is implicated in the induction of cachexia. Under certain conditions, it can stimulate cell proliferation and induce cell differentiation. In sheep, TNF contributes to the body's defense mechanisms, acute phase response, and hematopoiesis.
