Target Information
Mouse Protein S100-A8 (S100a8), also known as calgranulin A, is a calcium-binding protein primarily expressed in myeloid cells. It forms a heterodimer with S100a9, known as calprotectin, which plays a crucial role in the innate immune response. S100a8/9 is involved in the regulation of inflammation, apoptosis, and cell differentiation. In mice, S100a8/9 has been shown to promote cardiac hypertrophy via upregulation of FGF23. It also modulates macrophage perturbation and glycolysis in allergic asthma models. Additionally, S100a8/9 contributes to sepsis-induced lung injury by inducing excessive inflammatory responses and endothelial cell apoptosis through the inhibition of the Erk signaling pathway. This protein complex is also implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases like lupus by activating macrophages and dendritic cells via TLR7.
