Target Information
Bovine tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase 2 (TIMP2) is a protein that inhibits the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a group of enzymes that degrade components of the extracellular matrix. TIMP2 is composed of 194 amino acids and has a molecular weight of around 21 kDa, with both N-terminal and C-terminal domains that play distinct roles in its function. In cattle, TIMP2 is crucial for regulating the balance between MMP activity and inhibition, which is essential for maintaining tissue integrity and homeostasis. It is particularly important in processes such as tissue remodeling, wound healing, and the inhibition of angiogenesis. TIMP2 also has anti-inflammatory properties and is involved in the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation. Its expression is upregulated in response to cytokines and growth factors, and it plays a significant role in kidney health, where it helps maintain the structural and functional integrity of renal tissues.
