Target Information
Mouse Cathepsin S (Ctss) is a lysosomal cysteine protease that plays a critical role in the processing and presentation of antigens by antigen-presenting cells. Ctss is highly expressed in dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells, where it cleaves invariant chain to facilitate the loading of peptides onto major histocompatibility complex class II molecules. In mice, Ctss is essential for the activation of naive T cells and the initiation of adaptive immune responses. Research on Ctss in mice has provided insights into its functions in immune regulation and its potential involvement in autoimmune diseases and infectious diseases. Ctss has also been implicated in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and cancer, suggesting its broad role in both immune and non-immune related pathologies.
