Target Information
Bovine galectin 8 (Gal-8) is a member of the galectin family of proteins, known for their affinity for β-galactosides. Galectins are involved in various cellular processes, including cell adhesion, migration, and immune response modulation. In cattle, Gal-8 plays a significant role in the immune system, particularly in the context of inflammation and neutrophil function. It has been studied for its potential therapeutic use in combating inflammation and its effects on neutrophil migration. Moreover, Gal-8 has been identified as a ligand for LILRB4, driving M-MDSCs which contribute to immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment, highlighting its role in cancer progression.
