Target Information
Mouse Catenin Beta-1 (Ctnnb1) is a dual-function protein that regulates cell-cell adhesion and gene transcription. It is a key component of the cadherin adhesion complex and acts as a signal transducer in the canonical Wnt signaling pathway. In the absence of Wnt signals, β-catenin is phosphorylated by a degradation complex and subsequently degraded by the proteasome. However, in the presence of Wnt signals, β-catenin accumulates in the nucleus, where it binds to transcription factors and regulates the expression of downstream genes. Mutations in Ctnnb1 are associated with various cancers, including colorectal cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma.
