Target Information
Canine Somatotropin (GH1) is a peptide hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, playing a vital role in growth, cell reproduction, and regeneration. It primarily stimulates the liver and other tissues to secrete IGF-1, which promotes linear growth. GH1 also enhances protein synthesis and amino acid uptake in various cell types, including muscle and fibroblasts. In dogs, GH1 deficiency can lead to dwarfism, with clinical signs appearing around 6 months of age. Conversely, excess GH1 can cause hypersomatotropism, leading to insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus. GH1 secretion is regulated by GH-releasing hormone (GHRH) and somatostatin, maintaining growth homeostasis. In research, GH1 is used to study growth disorders, metabolic regulation, and the development of therapeutic interventions for related conditions.
