Target Information
Mouse Calpain-1 Catalytic Subunit (Capn1) is a calcium-dependent cysteine protease that plays a crucial role in various cellular processes. It is involved in cytoskeletal remodeling, signal transduction, and apoptosis. In the brain, Capn1 regulates synaptic plasticity and learning and memory by cleaving key proteins like PSD95 and SAP97. It also contributes to neurogenesis in the hippocampus. In disease contexts, Capn1 overactivation is linked to cellular damage in ischemia/reperfusion injury, where its inhibition can provide protection. In skeletal muscle, Capn1 is involved in muscle growth and atrophy.
