Target Information
Mouse Bone Morphogenetic Protein 6 (Bmp6) is a member of the TGF-β superfamily, known for its role in inducing bone and cartilage growth. It regulates iron homeostasis by upregulating hepcidin, the iron-regulatory hormone. Bmp6 is crucial for skeletal development, fat metabolism, and ovulation. In mouse models, Bmp6 deficiency leads to iron overload, delayed ossification, and reduced fertility in females. Bmp6 is also implicated in diseases like hereditary hemochromatosis and is being explored for its therapeutic potential in conditions such as preeclampsia, where it may improve placental function and vascular remodeling. Additionally, Bmp6 has applications in regenerative medicine for bone and tissue repair.
