Target Information
Canine lens fiber major intrinsic protein (MIP) is a key membrane protein in the lens fiber cells of dogs. It constitutes about 50-60% of the intrinsic membrane proteins in lens fiber junctions. MIP is essential for lens biogenesis and maintenance, playing roles in cell-to-cell adhesion and gap junction coupling. It also helps maintain lens transparency by facilitating intercellular water uptake. Mutations in the MIP gene can lead to cataracts.
