Target Information
Bovine interleukin 10 (IL-10) is a potent anti-inflammatory cytokine that plays a critical role in immune homeostasis and the regulation of inflammatory responses in cattle. IL-10 is secreted by various immune cells, including macrophages and regulatory T cells, and it functions to suppress the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, thereby modulating the immune response. This protein is particularly important in the context of chronic infections, such as Johne's disease caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis, where it can help to maintain an equilibrium between pro- and anti-inflammatory forces. IL-10 is also implicated in the regulation of the mammary gland's immune response, which is crucial for dairy cattle health. The balance of IL-10 signaling is essential for preventing excessive inflammation that could lead to tissue damage while still allowing for an effective immune response against pathogens. Its role in immune modulation makes IL-10 a significant factor in both physiological and pathological conditions in cattle.
