Target Information

Mouse Tissue-Type Plasminogen Activator (Plat) is a serine protease that plays a central role in the fibrinolytic pathway by converting plasminogen to plasmin, which breaks down fibrin clots. It is secreted by endothelial cells, neurons, and some glial cells and is involved in various physiological processes, including synaptic plasticity, cell migration, and tissue remodeling. Plat also modulates inflammatory responses and immune functions, such as promoting microglial activation and neutrophil recruitment in ischemic brain injury. Additionally, Plat has dual roles in the central nervous system, acting as both a neurotrophic factor and a neurotoxin, influencing neuronal survival and excitotoxicity. In disease states, Plat is associated with conditions like thrombosis, hemorrhage, and autoimmune disorders. Transgenic mice overexpressing Plat show enhanced long-term potentiation in the hippocampus, while Plat-deficient mice exhibit reduced synaptic plasticity.
