Target Information

Mouse Interleukin-13 Receptor Subunit Alpha-2 (Il13ra2) is a high-affinity membrane receptor for the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-13 (IL-13). Originally considered a decoy receptor that sequesters IL-13 and inhibits signaling, recent studies have shown that IL-13Rα2 can also promote tumor invasion and metastasis through STAT6-independent pathways, involving activation of AP-1 and ERK. In mouse models, IL-13Rα2 expression is positively correlated with tumor progression and metastasis. Additionally, IL-13Rα2 has been implicated in the regulation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), where its expression negatively correlates with goblet cell numbers and barrier function, suggesting a role in disease pathology. In a mouse model of allergic dermatitis, IL-13Rα2 has been shown to have a protective role against allergic inflammation and loss of skin barrier function.
