Target Information
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is encoded by the MPO gene in rabbits. It is predominantly expressed in neutrophils and is responsible for producing hypohalous acids, such as hypochlorous acid, contributing to their antimicrobial activity. Hypochlorous acid's sodium salt is the active ingredient in bleach. As a member of the XPO subfamily of peroxidases, MPO generates hypochlorous acid (HOCl) from hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and chloride anion (Cl−) during the neutrophil's respiratory burst, and can also produce hypobromous acid if bromide (Br−) is present.
