Mouse uroplakin 1a (UPK1a) is a tetraspanin transmembrane protein specifically expressed in uroepithelial tissues. It localizes to apical cell membranes and forms stable heterodimeric complexes with other uroplakin subunits. The protein features four transmembrane helices and a conserved extracellular loop structure. Its tissue-restricted expression and membrane complex assembly profile clearly distinguish it from other tetraspanin family members and epithelial surface proteins.
