Target Information

Rat Lipase A, also known as lysosomal acid lipase (LIPA), is a critical enzyme encoded by the Lipa gene. It hydrolyzes cholesteryl esters and triglycerides within lysosomes, generating free fatty acids and cholesterol. LIPA is essential for lipid metabolism and is expressed in various cell types, with its activity regulated by factors such as transcription factor EB (TFEB) and forkhead box O1 (FoxO1). Deficiencies in LIPA lead to severe lipid storage disorders, including Wolman disease and cholesterol ester storage disease.
