Rat ICAM4 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein with repeated extracellular immunoglobulin domains that sustain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. The protein anchors to plasma membranes of erythroid cell populations during red blood cell maturation. Its cell-surface adhesive structural framework and erythrocyte-specific expression differentiate it from soluble circulating signaling peptides, cytoplasmic scaffolding adaptors and intranuclear transcriptional regulators with streamlined single-domain assemblies and static single-compartment subcellular localization profiles.
