Mouse MME is a type II transmembrane metalloprotease with conserved extracellular catalytic domains and a short intracellular tail that sustain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It widely distributes on plasma membranes of renal, neural and endothelial cell populations. Its membrane-anchored proteolytic architecture and multi-tissue expression separate it from soluble secreted cytokines, cytoplasmic scaffold adaptors and intranuclear transcriptional regulators with streamlined single-domain assemblies and static single-compartment subcellular localization profiles.
