Mouse complement component 1, q subcomponent A (C1qA) is a 20 kDa collagen-like globular head whose N-terminal collagenous helix and C-terminal globular domain form a hexameric complex, initiating classical complement cascade by binding IgG/Fc and activating C1r/C1s. A solvent-exposed 14-aa "KVE" loop (aa 120-133) between collagenous and globular regions folds into a β-hairpin unique among mouse C1q subunits, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native C1qA in hepatic sinusoids, splenic follicles, and glomerular mesangium, delivering crisp extracellular deposition and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to C1qB or C1qC.
