Rat glucose 6 phosphate isomerase (GPI) is a cytosolic enzyme (63 kDa) central to glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. It catalyzes the reversible isomerization of glucose-6-phosphate and fructose-6-phosphate, regulating metabolic flux between carbohydrate pathways. Ubiquitously expressed in rat tissues-with elevated levels in liver, muscle, and kidney-it sustains energy production and carbohydrate homeostasis. Beyond metabolism, it functions as a secreted cytokine, mediating cell migration and inflammation.
