Rat trefoil factor 1 (TFF1, pS2) is a 6-kDa secreted peptide predominantly expressed in rat gastrointestinal mucosa-especially the stomach and duodenum. It belongs to the trefoil factor family, stabilizing mucosal barriers via interactions with mucins and epithelial cell surfaces. It promotes epithelial cell survival, migration, and wound repair, while suppressing excessive inflammatory responses in the gut. Beyond gastrointestinal physiology, it contributes to mucosal homeostasis in other epithelia. As a key regulator of gut barrier function and mucosal repair, rat TFF1 is a critical target for studying gastrointestinal diseases, mucosal injuries, and epithelial repair mechanisms.
