Thyroxine, also known as T4 or tetraiodothyronine, is the primary hormone secreted into the bloodstream by the thyroid gland. It is the less active form of thyroid hormone. It plays crucial roles in various bodily functions, including metabolism, heart and muscle function, brain development, and bone maintenance. Research has shown that T4 provides seasonal suppression of gonadotropin secretion in sheep.
