Target Information

In mice, the functions of PIIINP (the N-terminal propeptide of type III collagen) are primarily observed in several key areas: serving as a marker for fibrosis and tissue repair, participating in the recovery process following inflammation and tissue damage, regulating extracellular matrix assembly, and contributing to bone and cartilage metabolism. The concentration of PIIINP in the blood often correlates with the extent of tissue fibrosis. In tuberculosis models, PIIINP release is linked to matrix degradation mediated by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), suggesting its involvement in post-inflammation and tissue damage repair processes. Furthermore, in cases of chronic subdural hematoma and cerebrospinal fluid, PIIINP concentrations are significantly elevated, indicating increased collagen synthesis. In animal models, variations in PIIINP concentration are used to assess disease progression and treatment efficacy. For instance, in a cardiac lymphatic flow obstruction model, a significant rise in PIIINP concentration reflects an increase in myocardial collagen synthesis.
